It is said that the distinguishing characteristic of a Freemason’s heart is Charity.
Masons give as generously as each individual can afford. This is our own money – we do not collect from the public.
Over the years, Mitre Lodge members have contributed generously to both Masonic charities and Non-Masonic Charities.
Donations in 2016 and 2017 have been made to the Masonic Samaritan Fund, which is the subject of a five-year Festival in the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings. At our March 2017 meeting, a donation of £1000 and a promise of a further £1000 to follow within weeks were made to the Secretary and Treasurer of Festival 2018.
In December 2016 and at subsequent meetings, we made donations to York Sands, a charity which supports parents affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and neo-natal death.
Mitre Lodge’s Almoner’s Fund is maintained by activities and provides vouchers for Lodge widows at Christmas and also covers any costs incurred when they are invited as guests to our social functions.
